Practical Scrappers July Sketch

Today it's sketch day at Practical Scrappers and once again we are challenged with a fabulous sketch by Liz Chidester.

I love the detail that Liz puts into her sketches. It gives me a great starting idea in my head. This one started out one way and kind of took a little bit of a turn for me, but I love how it turned out. I have had this photo of David for a little while now and for whatever reason it is one of those that really brings up emotion in me. I just love this guy so much. He looks like he's taking it all in, and I know that in the same breath he is ready to take it all on like he always does.

Head over to the Practical Scrappers site and check out the fabulous layouts the other designers created using the same sketch. Then give it a try yourself and be sure to link it up. We love to see what others are doing.

Be Amazing

Happy Saturday! It's a sketchy day at S.W.A.T. and we are being challenged to not only use the fabulous sketch created by our own Lanette, but also take on the twist which is to use only patterned paper. That's right! No cardstock, people. Who's up for the challenge?

First the sketch:

Pretty awesome, right? Now here's my take using an old Teresa Collins line I had in my stash. I loved the transparency that was included in the line and cut it to use as one of the layers behind the photo of my nephew who just graduated. I love how it plays off the paper  bag I also had sitting in my pile of scrappy goods.I framed this layout for J.C. to display at his graduation party and he tells me he has it hung on his wall now.  I'll have to check that out :)

Join us on the S.W.A.T. blog and take part in the challenge. There is a Webster's Pages goody bag up for grabs for the winner.

Have a super Saturday.

She Sparkles

It's Monday and the week is already starting off crazy. I have been on the phone with doctors offices and insurance companies all day. Not a fun task at all. Decided I needed a break so I headed out for lunch with my Nathan and his friend. Those boys are crazy. How did I end up with teen age boys? I have to remind myself daily to enjoy their goofiness because there will come a day when I miss having it around all the time. Now we are back home and I am back at the insurance fights while they are enjoying their own kind of fighting on their video games.

With all the boyness around here I had to come up with some girly fabulousness to balance life out a little. I'm so glad for the beautiful nieces I have to borrow for that :) Not too long ago my sister and I were torturing the kids with a photo shoot and we ended up with this picture of Kristin that for some reason just makes me smile. It is such her personality shining through. I love this girl.

Such my cutie and there is more personality and fire bubbling out of this girl than one can manage. That is why I chose this photo for the On Trend assignment on the Practical Scrappers blog today. The assignment was to use gold. I don't use a lot of sparkle, gold or glitter but I had some fun gold letters that have been in my stash for awhile and I also heat embossed one of the Pink Paislee Artisan stars with some gold powder. A little pink and a little more bling and this layout fell together pretty well. It doesn't show up well on this photo but I also used a pink glitter spray on the background of the layout before adding my papers and photo and it gives the background another subtle girly component.

Hoping your week is starting off well. I'll be back later this week with a sketch challenge from S.W.A.T.

Giveaway Winner

Happy Sunday! I can't believe another week is starting. I sat down today and filled my calendar in with all of our upcoming events and I couldn't believe how quickly our days are filling up and how short summer seems with all the squares full. Yikes!

I wanted to announce my winner from last week's blog hops. After combining all comments from both hops I came up with Cathy as the winner for commenting on the Practical Scrappers hop.

Also, just a reminder if you haven't switched to bloglovin' or one of the other options for getting my feed I would love for you to do it! Just choose your option on the right. I am so thankful for the followers I have and hope to continue to bring you some fun inspiration.

Going Neon

We all love a little bit of 80's right? My kids definitely agree with that as they are frequently subjected to my favorite 80's radio station in the car all too often. Today is flashback day on the S.W.A.T blog and drill #11 is posted with a look at all things neon.
I have to admit I was having a bit of a creative mojo slump when working on my project for this drill. I love a great 80's song but working with neon isn't my go to thing. As a matter of fact, my massive  inventory of supplies (which truly needs a clean out) was sorely lacking in anything neon. The only neon I had in my stash was two ink pads. That's right. Two ink pads. I thought about running out to my local scrap store but guilt over the fact that I am adding way to often to my supplies when I really should be using them stopped me. That and remembering some cupcake wrappers I had on hand that came close to fitting the bill. Here's what I came up with. (Remember, the mojo was lacking a bit!)

Disclaimer: The colors of the ink truly are a bit brighter than they appear on here. I had trouble trying to adjust them properly with my software. Anyway, the gals on the design team did a fabulous job with their flashbacks and there are some truly fun examples of neon on the blog today. Come check it out and join in on the fun by linking up your own 80's/neon project. There is a fabulous Elle's Studio prize being offered by our sponsor for this challenge, Boy's Rule. I would love to see some of you stopping by and joining in. Let me know if you do.
