Published!

I'm back for a second post today... I know, right?? I had to come back though to share some exciting news I've been holding in for awhile. Life Paper Scrapbook is a new online crafting magazine that came out with their very first issue today. Better than that?? I have a layout published in there. That's right, page 69. Super excited and very thankful to the gals from the magazine for choosing one of my layouts for this issue. It is a layout you have seen on this blog before but I will share again just because I'm so excited!

If you get a chance, use the link and check out the issue. You can check it out for free.

So Sad!

Today is a new sketch and DT reveal on the Practical Scrappers blog. I absolutely loved the sketch that DT member Liz Chidester created. This girl is talented. She makes some of the best sketches out there. I loved the artsy feel of the sketch and it must have really sparked some creativity in me because I whipped this layout out in about 20 minutes. That has to be a record for me!

 Liz's sketch:

And here is my interpretation. I can't figure out why the background looks so blue on one side. I may have to try to retake the picture and repost when the sun is at a better angle.

These are our friends Alison and Ian Segard on the day they moved from Lincoln to Nashville. We met the Segards after they moved from Denver to Lincoln and quickly became good friends. When they had to move for job reasons it really came as a hard hit for us. I love the picture of Chris and Ian as they are in the car. That was their sad faces.

Have a super day!

S.W.A.T team Color Challenge

Yeah! I am so ready for the weekend. Yesterday was gorgeous outside and today is a little blah, but at least there is no snow and it is feeling a little springy. Today I am sharing a design team layout I made for S.W.A.T. This week we are hosting a color challenge. I had just found this awesome paper collection Here and There from Studio Calico. I loved the paper with the bikes and the grid with the clouds. I knew it would be perfect for these pics of Chris learning to ride his bike. I can totally remember this day so clearly in my mind. His excitement was through the roof and he picked it up so quickly. It wasn't long after he was popping wheelies and scaring us and the neighbors next door. We had this sweet older couple that just loved our kids and Dave would come over or call and say that he and Gail were watching Chris out the window and were so worried he was going to fall and hurt himself because he was so crazy. About two months after this we got Chris his first "big bike" for his birthday and he went out like a crazy man and fell on his first ride and broke his femur. Maybe we should have kept the training wheels on!

We were given the following Color Pallet to play with. All of the colors are in the bicycle paper.

What do you think about these colors. I like how they worked together.  Take a chance and come play with us at S.W.A.T  this week and link up a new layout. There is a $10 gift card to spend at 3 Scrappy Boys you could win.

Off to enjoy the weekend. See ya soon!

Double the Fun!

I recently have given in to the one page layout because of the quickness and the way I can focus on only one or a couple of photos. That being said, I am definitely a two page girl at heart. I like the look of a page that flows from one to to the next with multiple photos that tell a whole story. I just do and I am liking that I am seeing more interest in the two page layout from others. All that to say that today is Two Page Layout day on the Practical Scrappers blog. If you need inspiration for your own page or just want to see some beautiful work head on over and take a look.

I created a layout for the blog today. I was in Archiver's the other day when they were doing a demonstration of the Silhouette Cameo. They cut out this super fun subway art piece for family and i was lucky enough to take it home. I knew it would be perfect for some family photos I had yet to scrap.

Don't you love that piece?? I had some Fancy Pants that I was excited to use. I knew the gray, black and red would go great with our pics.

How about you? Are you a two page person or does the thought of doing a two page layout scare you?

Feeling Zippy!

Good morning.
What a week it's been. Yesterday I went to the dentist and had the worst appointment I have had in my entire life. I have had awesome teeth up to this point but yesterday's check up yielded 4 small cavities all on my left upper side between the teeth. On top of that there is a cracked tooth in that same area. Really?? The dentist asked if I always chew on my left side and I had no idea what to tell her. Isn't it funny how you can't even recall something you do everyday? I spent the rest of the day over thinking how I chew every time I took a bite. I know, I'm nuts. The lesson I took out of the day? I am 6 months away from turning 40 and I am already thinking 40 Stinks!

Now I totally need to think of something happy so I am sharing a layout that is up at Practical Scrappers . It is a Ten Things challenge and the embellishment we worked with was zippers! How fun, right?

I had some awesome gray zipper trim from Maya Road and had picked up some of the new Fancy Pants Swagger line which I absolutely loved. I knew they were perfect for each other.  I used the zipper trim to make photo corners for the picture. I distressed the layered papers behind the photo and added a couple of embellishments so that the becomes the main focus of the page. I used some washi...surprise, surprise. I think I've fallen in love with it! Finished off the layout with a spattering of gray mist and some Thickers. I am still working on pictures from the family photo shoot we had that year. I actually hosted the party and so I have all the proofs from that sitting as part of my hostess deal. I still have a million to scrap and I can't quit because they are all so great. Hope you don't get too sick of them :)

Check out the other ideas for using zippers. I even got the idea to recycle a zipper out of clothing that you are getting rid of. Saving money on this kind of trim = more for scrappy supplies, right?

Winners!

One of the best memories my boys have is our annual trip to Grandma and Grandpa Peeples house for Wray days.  Wray is a small community that my husband grew up in and Wray days is their celebration they have every summer with fun things to do all weekend long. One of those things is the Bike and Trike race and we have carted the boys bikes in the back of the car to Wray every year so they can participate. They get so excited and pumped up because they "are the best bike riders ever" according to themselves. This year (2004) they kind of proved that by both getting the 1st place ribbon for their age category. Sweet!

This page is part of Drill #3 over at the S.W.A.T. blog that just went up yesterday. The challenge for this drill is to use four pictures on a single page layout. Using a lot of pictures on a single page can take some creative arranging especially if you are like me and like a clean and ordered look! I had to rearrange a few times because I also wanted to add the first place ribbons to the page which take up a lot of space. I am happy with how it turned out in the end. Last week I won the Childhood Memories line from a contest on the Imaginisce blog. The papers were perfect for the pictures I had. I also had some different washi tapes that went with the blues so I decided to create my own border for the page by laying pieces along the outside edge of the paper in random fashion. Love how it turned out.

Hoping you will take some time to head over and check out the challenge. We had quite a few participants last month and three of those participants walked away with some pretty sweet prizes. This drill has it's own awesome prize. It is a $20 gift card to 3 Scrappy Boys, a monthly kit club site as well as a shop where you can get many of the latest scrappy products.

Oh, and bummer news... I failed to make it to the last round of the Card Contest. So sad. I am pretty happy with making it through to the top 10 though and want to thank each of you for your votes and sweet comments as I made my way through. I'll definitely try again the next time.
